geared
So the economy has changed by around 1%, and its made everyone feel good, and start borrowing more, woopy doo. But at the same time, inflation is rising faster than wages. Although the prices of fuel, food and clothing have actually reduced rather than increased. I must have missed that headline, fuel and food prices fall. Did those prices fall more than peoples wages, can you expand on what you have just wrote? tinfoilhat
Looks like it's coming down to me.http://www.petrolprices.com/the-price-of-fuel.html Minimum wage isn't going down either, plus there's a big push for a living wage.

I was thinking more about heating fuel. The government failed to increase the minimum wage with prices, so it ha some catching up to do. They did increase benefits with the normal inflation increase tho.

Would be nice if something like this happened http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-28869228 Can't see it happening though, just looks like more electioneering. Still, if it looks like it would happen, the power companies would get there first and threaten the nation with blackouts. ---------- Post added 21-08-2014 at 05:58 ---------- I think mainly because it is part of the Daily Mail..y'know the right wing press which Mecky attacks at any given opportunity.. http://www.mailconnected.co.uk/this-is-money The Daily mail, your favourite web site/paper. then, so it must be correct in your view, so are why are you trying to discredit it? I also read the Metro free paper on my daily commute which is owned and published by the same company that produces the Daily Mail and apart from its usual hate campaign, it often publishes stories which contrast those printed in its sister paper. What's that all about?

Mecky
Not sure how removing a licence would work to be honest, sounds a logistical nightmare. Don't see why consumers should be punished because their power supplier has ripped them off. By punishment, I mean would consumers get their supply chopped off through no fault of their own? geared
I must have missed that headline, fuel and food prices fall. Did those prices fall more than peoples wages, can you expand on what you have just wrote? People's wages have not fallen, they've not really increased much either. The Office for National Statistics says that the biggest single factor driving CPI down to 1.6% was clothing prices, which tumbled by 5.7% between June and July. Other large downward effects came from the alcohol, financial services and food & non-alcoholic drinks. The ONS explains: Alcohol & tobacco prices, overall, fell by 0.7% between June and July this year but rose by 0.6% a year ago. The downward effect came from a range of alcohol products, principally spirits and wine. For both groups, prices fell this year but rose a year ago. Food prices fell a little between July and June, led by bread & cereals and sugar, jam, syrups, chocolate & confectionery. That’s due to the ongoing price wars between major supermarkets, as established chains try to battle Aldi and Lidl. http://www.theguardian.com/business/blog/live/2014/aug/19/uk-us-inflation-rail-fares-business-live
