richmilner
This month we have aimed yet again to supply you with some of the most fun and refreshing comedy on the circuit whilst introducing you to some local talent. Comedy and anti-comedy will collide and either propel us to distant worlds or implode the universe. Either way it’ll be terrific fun and there’ll be cake. EDWARD ACZEL Edward Aczel began performing stand-up at the age of 38 and soon found himself in the finals in the BBC New Comedy Award and Jimmy Carr’s own Comedy Idol. Within a couple of years he’d won the Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality and earned a string of four and five star reviews for his Edinburgh shows. All of this despite eschewing the typical staple of stand-up comedy: jokes. As Britain’s leading anti-comic, Aczel manifests a kind of funny that lives by its own rules, and then breaks them too. His baffling hilarity also defies explanation; you’ll just have to experience it for yourself! ‘Genius anti-comic Aczel is a superb pleasure to watch, and very much a cult in the making’ – Time Out ‘Britain’s greatest living anti-comedian’ – The Guardian ‘absurdly charming’ – The London Evening Standard ‘delighting and confusing audiences in equal measure’ – Time Out ‘One of the most inventive and memorable comics working today’ – The Scotsman ‘Aczel turns unprofessionalism into an artform’ – The Times ‘One of the most entertaining oddities in recent years’ – Metro DAVID STANIER Stanier is a rising talent who loves anything and everything silly and is a big fan of the unexpected, with plenty of punchlines punctuated by surprising plot twists. A winner of the Hilarity Bites New Act of the Year competition and a BBC New Comedy Award Wildcard Choice, he’s sublimely capable of making audiences guffaw-a-go-go with his idiosyncratic daftness and exuberant surrealism. ‘like a children’s television presenter they should never let have a show’ – Manchester Wire ‘Astonishingly fresh, inventive and totally hilarious’ – JFL Comedy ‘he blew us away’ – Giggle Beats plus STEVE GOODALL RUSS CUTTS and host RICH MILNER Doors open 7.30pm, show starts 8pm Admission £3 (adv) / £4 (door) Advance tickets available from wegottickets.com.
