Has Farage been telling us porkies? Surely not..

It was a very funny joke. You said the UK government had complete control over who it allows to reside. They can't even count how many come in! Ha, ha, ha!!!

Yes,it is funny if a government is making all these new laws on immigration and then not acting on them, but more fool them for not doing so.

If you think it wouldn't damage the EU if the UK left then you need to think again. Besides, the people of the UK are not the only ones with concerns about immigration and/or the EU dictating non-trade related laws. The calls for reform are growing eslewhere in the EU too. The EU is made up of politicians who will all trade principles for power when their power is threatened. There is room for negotiation.

The UK referendum will be the defining moment for the UK,Cameron can do all the negotiations about getting powers back and treaty changes that he wants, but when the vote comes around, all that will count for very little.

its not those working that is the problem...its those lovely roma who live in page hall...they have come to scrounge...and this government does nothing about it...that's why people want out of europe....we have enough scroungers of our own without importing them....

mind you our MPs don't have to live amongst them...too busy scrounging themselves...

Let's say you are moving a load (assuming you are in the logistics business) from Sheffield to London, but you don't like junction 34 of the M1, does that mean you are going to drive down A roads all the way?

Sorry Zamo, can you explain how leaving the EU is going to fix the problem that the government doesn't have a clue who live here? Quite curious really, considering that all that travel here from the EU already have to show their passport as the UK isn't part of Schengen. There is no reason why, whilst in the EU, the government shouldn't be able to ask people what their intended duration of stay, intended place of residence etc. is. Because guess what, that is what most EU countries do with non Schengen visitors anyway...

Yes, so why don't you do that now? the Roma are a tiny proportion of EU immigrants, yet you want to close down all relations with the EU because of that tiny number, it doesn't add up really, does it?

What if Europe is already the Premier League and the UK is Man City - what use is it for Man City to say: We don't like your league, we are going to play on our own?

The Chinese prime-minister recently stated that he sees the relation between China and the EU as pivotal to the global economy.

Putin is effectively causing the Ukraine to collapse and die because the previous president wanted to deal with the EU to improve their economy.

Barack Obama has warned that the UK out of the EU is bad for business.

Guess what, Europe is the Premier League and it is that because of these countries that joined as much as it is because of the countries that originally founded it.

The EU does need those countries, are you telling me Cardiff did not contribute in a sporting sense to the League despite walking away with 60+ million pounds for getting relegated?

Big picture Eastbank, it goes beyond ten streets in S5.

I agree there are things the government could do now to better understand and assess the impact of immigration e.g. counting people in and out and tracking what they do when here. But they don't because the results will only wind people and what is the point of that when you can't do anything about it because you are bound by EU law? That is why they have not published figures showing the count of people arriving from Bulgaria and Romania and instead published some meaningless figures about how many are in work!

Leaving the EU would obviously allow us to implement our own immigration policies and controls.

That has to be one of the worse analogies of all time! You in some dodgy internet cafe tugging on something stronger than coffee?

Apart from a very ill-constructed sentence it is also a silly argument. You are contradicting yourself here, on the one hand you say people want out of the EU because of immigration, on the other you say that improving systems will wind people up?

It is also factually incorrect, the EU allows for policies and controls, there are already policy amendments in force at the moment that have resulted in the number of Bulgarians and Romanians actually going down, rather than up, since they were allowed to come and work here without the need of a visa.

What the EU is against is to stop the free movement of WORKERS. Fix the system and you can stop panicking about EU immigrants coming to take benefits out of the system. This is also on the agenda in the EU parliament as a whole, it is a legit concern and it will need legit solutions, leaving the EU before giving it a chance to fix this is rather silly and self-defeating.

Let the UK fix its own internal problems, the EU is working to fix theirs.
