Staunton Posted May 11, 2017 Author Share Posted May 11, 2017 It's not that "they have put", if students don't pay for the education, then the country has to. There is no bottomless well of money to pay for things, although I suspect that education is well worth spending state money on. It's also not contrary to conservative values to have a well educated work force. The privileged education that I enjoyed had nothing to do with work. The system that pays for public services is tax - precisely the system which the conservative party are eroding, both formally by reduction in income taxes for the rich and corporation tax for businesses and cynically, by giving a green light to massive tax cheating by savage cuts to HMRC. If we want properly funded schools, HE grants hospitals and social services we must think very carefully on June 8. Do we want a country that gives more to the rich, or one that looks after all its citizens. The choice before us is as stark as that! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
