The German government renationalised one of its industries about 10 years ago. With regards to the UK, I also recall that the East Coast line has been nationalised at least twice, the last time being only a couple of years ago.

So EU membership and nationalisation aren't mutually exclusive.

It's not nationalisation that is against EU rules, it's State Aid.

Corbyn has been clear in speeches in the past that he doesn't want the UK to be in the Single Market due to the rules that prohibit State Aid.

Regarding rail, EU rules state that the management and infrastructure of rail services must be separate, and if spare capacity exists it must be open to another operator to fill the gap. The 'British Rail' model of the past is a monopoly and can't be put in place whilst the UK is part of the EU. The 'nationalisation' of the East Coast line stayed inside the rules set down by the EU.

It establishes the general right for railway undertakings established in one Member State to operate all types of passenger services everywhere in the EU, lays down rules aimed at improving impartiality in the governance of railway infrastructure and preventing discrimination and introduces the principle of mandatory tendering for public service contracts in rail. Competition in rail passenger service markets will encourage railway operators to become more responsive to customer needs, improve the quality of their services and their cost-effectiveness.   The competitive tendering of public service contracts will enable savings of public money.  The market pillar is expected to deliver more choice and better quality of rail services for European citizens, these being the overriding objectives.

The EU is very pro privatised railways.

Whilst this covers the dread B word, it highlights how Corbyn doesn't want the single market, he wants a 'customs union' which will presumably have no restrictions regarding state aid and nationalisation of industry. IMO it would be rejected as it's an EU 'red line' but no one seems to have thought that through in supporting his ideas.

A Corbyn government would seek to take Britain out of NATO, do away with Trident, wind down the army, end any support for Israel, Unite Ireland, give the Falklands to Argentina, give Gibraltar to Spain and abolish the monarchy, or at least break any link between them and the state and leave them alone to thrive as a private family.

How many of those things were in the last Labour manifesto?

Angela Smith tipped to form new breakaway party.

Labour traling, when they should be capitalising.

Where is the effective opposition we need, that represents traditional Labour voters instead of corbynistas???

Oh crikey, here we go again, how many times have they threatened to form a breakaway party?

they will not do it, they will never get elected again, and they will be off the gravy train...

To be honest i wish they would just get on with it and stop all the talk,

more to the point, when will we get a credible government?

strong and stable #### strong and stable ####strong and stable lol

So, the current government is in turmoil. Agreed.

Why aren't Labour opposing effectively? They are worse.

We don't have a credible opposition. For lots of people, the Tories are the lesser of two evils. Hence Labour are behind in the polls, at a time when they should be surging ahead.

The government in turmoil? hahaha thats one way to describe it, they cant make party policy unless they consult the DUP first...lol

I have said it a million times, but i will say it again, Corbyn doesn't get a fair representation, you only had to see what the supposedly impartial Fiona Bruce did to Abbott on question time, and this is from the BBC, if he was treated fairly then i am sure the labour party would be polling higher, that is assuming the polling is accurate..

You only have to look at the one sided media coverage over the Venezuela  sage to see  how people can be easily manipulated
