JFKvsNixon
Great news. Farage could then replace him. Cars well must remember that without Farage, there wouldn't have been a UKIP party for him to defect to. How could Farage replace him, there doesn't have to be a by-election if Douglas Carswell does leave UKIP. Even there was a by-election what makes you think that he'd win, after all he's failed in his 7 previous attempts at becoming an MP.
max
I find this quote from Steve Crowther really unbelievable if not a downright lie: members had "unanimously" rejected Mr Farage's letter of resignation Given that the result was only announced on Friday and Farage only tendered his resignation later that day plus there's no post on Sunday how on earth did they consult with all the members? Unless they all met in the pub which would imply that they don't have as many members as they claim. How about those UKIP members on here, were you consulted, when and what was your reply? If Carswell resigns, I believe the local party will vote Farage as the person to be the next UKIP candidate for the by-election. Currently they hold the seat by 3,500. Farage's presence may increase that majority.
MikeFrank
The reasoning behind his promise to resign was that there would be MP's in the HOC, he thought UKIP would win more seats. They didn't. If there had been ten elected then of course he would have been right to resign. But there's only one, who has said he doesn't want to lead the party. So whoever was elected would not have been in the house anyway. That's my reasoning, anyway. Edited May 11, 2015 by MikeFrank

LeMaquis
Given that the result was only announced on Friday and Farage only tendered his resignation later that day plus there's no post on Sunday how on earth did they consult with all the members? The members bit seems to refer to committee members, not all their members; " Ukip’s chairman, Steve Crowther, released a statement saying Farage’s resignation had been “unanimously rejected by the national executive committee members who produced overwhelmingly evidence that the Ukip membership did not want Nigel to go”. http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/may/11/nigel-farage-withdraws-resignation-as-ukip-leader
