999tigger
If its fresh meat, then why on earth didnt you remove the whole of the packaging? The metallic label is so obviously going to cause a problem , but any polystyrene pr opther packaging has a good chance of melting as well. You want to blame Morrisons for your own foolishness? geared
Unless it's come from the butchers counter, but then IIRC it's wrapped in a piece of plastic and put into a paper bag. Neither of which I'd think is good to put in the microwave to be honest.
PRESLEY
Rushing to do tea as we have had a busy day and put 2 sirlion steaks in the microwave on defrost and they burst into flames!!! We managed to abate the fire and even most of the steak (we cut off the frazzled bit). Of course the sodding packaging states..."remove this label before putting in microwave" and it was the security label they are now putting on food items because of shop-lifters....well, thanks for that Morrisons, microwave is kna***red and whole kitchen full of small particles of soot. Asked hubby...."have I to complain to Morrisons about the fire?", he says "no, it was your fault for not taking the label off!", GGGRRRRRRRRR!, but gotta go....a kitchen to spring clean ******* My advice is, get a new Microwave, and don't ever enter the Kitchen again, for every ones safety. Polystyrene isn't likely to be affected by the temperature of a defrosting piece of steak, and doesn't heat up directly in microwave radiation. The only real issue was the metallic anti-theft sticker.

Polystyrene is transparent to microwaves and is often used to block the end of the waveguide in the oven to stop steam and splash getting back to the magnetron. Sounds like Major Carter, SG-1 is required.
