Bhakti is an important yoga practice. The word bhakti simply means an attitude of devotion and is described in yoga philosophy books as one of the fastest ways of attaining enlightenment and is also probably the easiest way as it does not involve complicated practices. Bhakti practices are very simple and usually are all about mantra repetition, singing, dancing, feeding people, bringing the community together and living a life that honours the needs of all beings animate or inanimate. In the West we have very much connected with the ‘physical’ exercises of yoga and have barely even begun to explore what yoga is all about. However, bhakti yoga is slowly starting to gain popularity in the UK and to celebrate 10 years of sharing yoga with Sheffield and the wider community we are rejoicing with this wonderful bhakti yoga party.
