10% of the NHS budget spent on diabetes

Recommended Posts

The report actually states that a change of lifestyle may "delay" and its also linked to factors "including" which include being overweight.

How the NHS can differentiate between those factors is any ones guess?

Although i do believe they should be encouraged to do more for themselves.

However in 2010 £40million was spent on treating people who appear to have more fashion sense than common sense, with the figure due to increase.

Abandon the NHS.

Other countries do quite well without such an organisation. People should take out comprehensive forms of insurance re accidents and emergency and extend the cover to their personal circumstances and activities.

Making effective healthcare difficult or impossible to access for the poorest in society.

Other countries would love to have a health system like the NHS.

Anyway, going back to the title, where has the 10% figure come from?

http://www.diabetes.co.uk/cost-of-diabetes.html

The cost of diabetes to the NHS is over £1.5m an hour or 10% of the NHS budget for England and Wales. This equates to over £25,000 being spent on diabetes every minute.

Obese patients ‘will break NHS budget within 10 years’ Sooner or later society will just have to let people die when their self inflicted conditions render them incapable of caring for themselves.

As a society if we decided that everyone is entitled to healthcare then everyone is entitled to healthcare.

There is no universal set of entitlements to refer to to claim that it's a "right to which people aren't entitled".

And as a measure of a supposedly civilised society, healthcare free at the point of provision is IMO a very important entitlement.

The problem being when something is free it is very often taken for granted and abused.
