A guitarist since the age of 8, experimenting at the age of 14 with multiple tape recorders and Future Music cover cd’s led to him travelling to Texas to take over electronic duties in post punk outfit ‘The Rise’. He then signed as ‘Ocelot’ to Mark Jones’ Wall Of Sound label, playing everywhere from main stage Creamfields to rooftops in Miami. Officially remixing Rob Zombie, Depeche Mode and a pre-bald Britney Spears, It could be said, James Welsh has had quite a career already. When he isn’t producing for other people or larking around on bikes, James is now making music on his own terms. His debut solo release ‘Air Valley’ on Losing Suki garnered plaudits from fans such as Gilles Peterson, Ben Westbeech (Breach) and Jimpster- follow up’s on Wolf Music, Join The Dots & Futureboogie further showcased his versatility. With more planned with Futureboogie & debut on Hypercolour this year, James Welsh has quickly become one of the most consistent producers in his field. Such an early lesson in the essentials of drum patterns and rhythmic elements has led to a solid foundation in what Loz considers to be one of the most crucial components in his own production. Initially influenced by the more experimental sounds of IDM and Electronica, Loz found that electronic music production, both live and in the studio, was where his heart was set. Over time his musical tastes and influences have evolved, as has his love of House and more recently, Disco. These days, Loz takes influence from artists such as Tornado Wallace, Sound Stream, Delano Smith, Luna City Express, Max Graef and Motor City Drum Ensemble and this has enabled him to develop a synth infused, sample-based style. Loz has also been residing in Sheffield for the past 3 years, which has seen him play at the opening of Dan J & Squarehead’s Reset Records, as well as mix a podcast for the Huddle Sheffield boys. From humble beginnings in 2003 he is fast becoming a familiar name on the circuit, having played alongside acts such as Radio 1’s Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez, The Martinez Brothers, Jamie Jones and Nick Curly, to name but a few. His ability to take his sound from mellow down-tempo beats right through to powerful driving techno has led him to play at clubs throughout the UK and now overseas, including Space Ibiza, Global Gathering, Sankeys, Cargo and Pacha. As a producer and remixer, Russell has been signed to MUM Records, Channelled Recordings, Sequential Records and Afterlight Records, with his tracks appearing in numerous charts and featured on Beatport & Traxsource home pages.
