Camping gas canisters on planes

Recommended Posts

Check with your airline, it does sound like something on the banned item list to be honest.

For example Virgin Atlantic say:

Safety considerations mean the items listed below (and other similar items) are not allowed in your baggage at all, whether hand baggage or check in baggage:

Flammable liquids and solids such as lighter fuel, paints, thinner and firelighters

Compressed gases, whether deeply refrigerated, flammable, non flammable or poisonous - such as butane, oxygen, liquid nitrogen and aqualung cylinders

I know you are definitely not allowed to take camping gas canisters on planes as carry-on. How about in check-in baggage? Are they still not allowed?

I think some of the more reputable companies provide in-flight meals nowadays ... are you thinking of going by Ryanair? :P

obviously there is no way I would cook a meal on a plane, however I might on a long ferry journey. Where I am going they can last from 10 to as long as 35 hours.

this kind of canister pictured here https://www.google.com/search?site=&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1024&bih=479&q=yellowstone+butane+gas+cartridge+220g&oq=yellowstone+butane+gas+cartridge+220g&gs_l=img.12...13434.16372.1.18213.15.10.0.5.0.0.146.901.6j3.9.0....0...1ac.1.48.img..51.10.1354.8Hmt8JKKSZE&gws_rd=ssl#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=-7AGesm2Pa0I0M%253A%3B0-tgRLimgUOLSM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.gadgetize.co.uk%252Fshopping%252Fproduct_images%252Fq%252F994%252FGA009__91489_zoom__40832_zoom.JPG%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.gadgetize.co.uk%252Fshopping%252Fproducts%252FYellowstone-Butane-Gas-Cartridge-220g-%28Pack-of-4%29.html%3B212%3B400

is available where I am going, although only in the biggest cities.

however this one pictured here https://www.google.com/search?site=&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1024&bih=479&q=butane+propane+gas+canister&oq=butane+propane+gas+canister&gs_l=img.12..0i24.2398.6511.0.8069.27.12.0.11.11.0.202.1235.0j7j1.8.0....0...1ac.1.48.img..8.19.1283.N5YkHpuEP6Q&gws_rd=ssl#q=blue+propane+camping+gas+canister&tbm=isch&facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=NoJJlxof1yazLM%253A%3BOOa4L2uxbUGHOM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fimages.ffx.co.uk%252Ftools%252FGAZC206BP.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.ffx.co.uk%252Ftools%252Fproduct%252F203530%3B640%3B480 is not and ideally I want both kinds of gas canisters.

me neither. I am sending a box by sea in a few weeks which will take 10 weeks or so to get there, with stuff in it I can put gas canisters in there, however I will be a month in country before I get to the place where the big box will be. I think I'll just get through that first month using the gas canisters pictured in link #1, which I can buy in malls there, and then have a supply of the canisters pictured in link #2, which I can't get there but which would still be handy for me to use.

I have just flown back to UK and for some inexplicable reason I was staring at the prohibitions list.

Gas canisters were on there along with fireworks and explosives.

I don't think it is an airline prohibition it's an international prohibition.

I do remember a few years ago preparing some motorcycles for flying. Every drop of oil, petrol, brake fluid had to be removed. Spark plugs had to be removed and Batteries had to be removed and specially packed prior to inspection by a cargo specialist.

I'm even thinking it might not be a good idea to put the gas canisters in the box that is going by sea. Might be better to just do it all there, cooker gas canisters and everything.
