tinfoilhat
It used to be, many years ago, free up to nvq level 3 (A level equivalent) at most colleges. And it isn't any more it bloody well should be!!!!
Claire28
It would cost me £3,500/year!!
999tigger
As far as I recall you have to take out a watered down version of a student loan. You should ask the instutution where you wish to study. And now ive just seen the title but as far as I recall JC wont pay for anything although soemtimes theres funding for certain courses for the unemployed. Think the access course will be your responsibility as its a mucch higher level but contact the place where you intend to study.
Claire28
My access was paid for 2 years ago. So I know they did pay it then!
999tigger
I think times have changed and that funding is no longer there. Why didnt you complete when they paid for it? I looked into this last year for someone. http://www.sheffcol.ac.uk/Adult-Learners/Financial-support Anyway just go and ask the institution and person in charge of the access course am sure its a very common request. 999tigger
I did! They weren't sure...... Is it Hallam, the Uni or Sheffield college? Every year hundreds of mature students will do the access courses, so yes they will know how to assist with finances. You just have to talk to the correct person. 999tigger
Sheffield College. How Much Will It Cost? The Level 3 Access to HE Diploma tuition fee has been set for 2013-14 at £1511 for students aged 19-23 (although some may be entitled to a fee waiver due to personal circumstances e.g. previous qualifications, if not working and receiving benefits). Students who have to pay may spread this over 6 instalments or claim 10% discount if payment is made in full at enrolment before the start of the course. For students aged 24 and over at the start of the course the fee will be £3022 but you can apply for the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to cover this. The college is committed to opening up educational opportunities and the ‘Learner Support Fund’ can sometimes be used to help people who are unwaged or on a low income, with some of the expenses involved in their course. Learner Support Fund The College may be able to help with the cost of books, equipment, travel, specialist clothing and child care. For further information, email: financial-support@sheffcol.ac.uk or telephone 0114 260 2600 and ask for the Learner Support Fund Co-ordinator. You may also be entitled to claim Adult Learning Grant. https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/advice/courses/funding/Pages/24AdvancedLearningLoans.aspx
