The old SYPT buses.

Recommended Posts

Does anyone remember the old SYPT buses.

When you could travel anywhere for a few pence.

My dad worked at Herries Road Garage. He died when I was 17 about 30 years ago, but when I visit family in Sheffield, I pass the old site which is now Hillfoot Steels, and feel all nostalgic.

I started as a driver in 1974 at Herries fondly known as "Hillsborough Bus Company" by us all because we were considered as outsiders to the rest of the company. I may have known your Dad as I was there till it shut down and moved to Olive Grove, what was your Dad's name?

I was at Hillsborough Bus Company around 85 to 87 in my second stint as I was at Townhead Street 63 to 67 so it is possible that I know you two I was mostly crew driver and left just after I had to go one manning

This photo from Hillboro, brings back some memories from circa 1974 when I was given the task of removing the letters on the building with my mate--SHEFFIELD CORPORATION TRANSPORT --I went up the ladder 29 times to chisel off the letters--I think my mate just stayed at the bottom ---spent quite a few year off and on with the indoor lads --great bunch of NUTTERS
