And Again:

Around half of Merseyside-based escorts advertising on one adult website come from Poland, Romania, Hungary and the Baltic countries.

51% would be around half. It is also most. 50 or 51% doesn't make much difference. Still shows the massive crime problem that as come from uncontrolled immigration

How does it give a 'boost' to the economy? The trade is and always has been there. All it does is distort the stats and make historical comparisons impossible.

It also neglects the negative aspects re the financial strain this crime puts on the public purse. Not to mention the social problems. But you don't care... anything that can put a positive spin on uncontrolled mass immigration is good.

Exactly, the illegal drugs cost the UK billions, more than the figures of the positive spin this government is trying to put on the situation. Of course, they definitely wouldn’t want us to be so aware of that, because they would have to come up with answers as to why it is so out of control.

Blatant undermining of people’s intelligence. It just demonstrates the utter contempt this government has for the people.

Everybody knows the answer to that one,it doesn't need a government to come up with any..............it's because loads of people want to take drugs.

Yep, legalise them, stop spending police time on them and tax them. Then they'll make us billions instead.

Are you confusing selling escort services with something illegal?

You're not a) assuming escort = prostitute and b) labouring under the misapprehension that prostitution is illegal?

Not opposed to the idea myself but still won't happen any time soon. The general public wouldn't support it and will not support a party that does... deal breaker.

You should take a break from SF Cyclone... you're in danger of becoming one of the resident SF miereneukers.

Selling sex isn't technically illegal but soliciting is, as is pimping, running a brothel etc. Irrelevant to the point I was making anyway. The point is that suddenly recognising sex work and drug dealing as trade within the economy doesn't provide any economic 'boost'. It is an exercise in stat manipulation is all.

Will they not make appropriate adjustments when making comparisons year on year?

I've not heard them declare a 2% increase in GDP over night due to changing the measurements. They can (just one solution) for the purposes of historical comparison continue to produce the 'old' numbers alongside the new. Or they can also estimate and back fill the historical levels for the new measurement technique.

Statisticians deal with this sort of thing all the time.

Dutch swearing, way to get around the filter.

You think these are inconsequential details, the fact that prostitution isn't illegal and escorts aren't necessarily prostitutes.

I'd say that the entire point you were making about illegal activity and immigrants rests on these 'little details'.

It remains nothing more than statistical manipulation.

GDP should be based on trade that you want to encourage on the basis that GDP is view as 'the more the better'. There are so many negatives associated with the illegal running of the prostitution and drug trade that it makes it inappropriate to include as part of the GDP calculation. It should be done at the same time as legalising, regulating and taxing the trade... should that day ever come.

Yes, couldn't resist the Dutch swearing. I heard it used a couple of months ago and have been dying to use it myself... love the expression.

Yes, detail comes into it but only when it comes to considering how to legalise, regulate and tax the trade. The detail isn't material to the decision to include as part of GDP. The fact remains that this is not an exercise in improve the quality or accuracy of statistics by including a new types of trade. It is an exercise in manipulating statistics that was started by the EU to increase GDP and lower the ratio of debt to GDP... a delusional fiddle to get round their own rule re indebtedness. This government have no doubt seized on the opportunity to show how much immigration adds to the economy (as it is clear the Tories have failed to controlled immigration any better than Labour) but the contribution of Eastern Europeans who are prolific in the organised crime sector should not be dressed up as respectable (it remains sordid, violent and exploitative) and welcomed.
