tinfoilhat
If you wanted somewhere where you could be safe, have your human rights respected and be able to build a future for yourself and your family, you might want to come here. I know I would. I'd be going for England rather than the oppressive evil French. There human rights record is awful with thousands being executed often without trial. Admittedly my data might be out of date and France might be a socialist(ish) country with free healthcare and education and already has a large immigrant and Muslim populations already. But no, it's probably better to wait in a rat infested crap hole where I could contract a god awful disease then sneak accross the channel using methods that might kill me, than learn French. hauxwell
I'm torn on this - I'd have thought a reasonable number would just be happy with the first safe place they can get and many do undoubtedly stay in Italy or France or Greece which is why these places are having real problems unlike us with refugees. Those trying to get onto the ferries here have decided it's UK or bust, they are not refugees but largely economic migrants and that is a different matter I feel. Yes I think you are right. They are economic migrants. I wonder how may are sent home if they do make it to this country.

Happ Hazzard
We are a soft touch and the rest of the world takes advantage. It's time we toughened up and stopped giving benefits to migrants.

Mecky
Put yourself in the shoes of someone who lives elsewhere and whose life has been made intolerable through war or famine or repression - where would you want to go? I know I would. Are you saying that the rest of europe doesn't provide those things? ---------- Post added 05-09-2014 at 07:38 ---------- We are a soft touch and the rest of the world takes advantage. It's time we toughened up and stopped giving benefits to migrants. You're clearly very familiar with the system. Tell us, what benefits does an asylum seeker get whilst waiting for a decision.
