What is 'stylish/elegant', in your view?

Recommended Posts

More nominations for women or men whom you consider the epitome of style and/ or elegance? From any era or age group?
Carole Bouquet (currently). You need to watch some interviews to get a sense of the style/elegance, photos alone do not really convey it.

the clothes produced by the fashion houses are designed to be worn by stick thin young women. He implies style is the preserve of the young and thin. Yet I have seen more style and elegance this summer among women over 40.

A man of any age and shape can acquire style if he were to purchase a bespoke suit from a Savile Row tailors. Maybe you have seen more style and elegance this summer among women over 40 because more of them can afford it. The latest female fashions are designed for thin women because the designers want to design for elegance. An overweight woman can never be elegant. A major designer would rather overweight people didn't wear their creations in the same way Burberry were horrified when football hooligans and the underclasses started wearing their clothes and accessories. Burberry held many emergency meetings about this if you remember. They believed it could cost their brand billions long term, even destroy it completely.

That all smacks of snobbishness and elitism.

That all smacks of snobbishness and elitism.

That's what fashion and style is. The elite is who the fashion designers and style magazines are aiming at and want to attract. They want those who can't afford it to be intimidated and put off, that's what makes it appealing to those who can afford it. Exclusivity out of reach to others. There are fashions and downgraded levels of style for all pockets. That's what off the peg high street stores are for. Young girls can't afford what Kate Moss wears on the catwalk, but they can just about afford to buy something from one of her lines at Top Shop.

Kate Moss has to be a long way down the list of people with style, class or elegance.

You think differently to Anna Wintour, the entire fashion world, many fortune 500 companies and all her global fans. Kate Moss is a style and fashion icon! Not hot air, the proof is in the sales of everything she's ever modelled and sells with her name on since she was a young girl. Even today at over 40 she is used in major international TV and magazine modelling and style campaigns. Her sales figures prove she is very high on the list of people with style, class and elegance.

I have googled 'Kate Moss images'. Discounting those which are next door to porn, any clothes she is wearing look as though they could have come from the rag and tag market.

Clearly Fernand and I are miles apart on this topic so I am bowing out now.

I would never dream of such a thing. but find it funny you have deleted a few valid posts!.

The warnings are left for those posts that have been removed and a reason as to why.

If you want to take this discussion further, speak to the helpdesk, as this talk is derailing the conversation even more so.

Thank you.
