Who Cares
Hello, My Mother recently passed away and the funeral is arranged for the middle of next week. My Father is confined to a wheelchair. It would appear that Funeral Limousines are not wheelchair accessible and the only alternative offered is booking a taxi to take him to the service/cemetery etc. Having looked on Google there are companies that hire out suitable/specialist vehicles but the closest one I have found appears to be in the midlands?!. They will deliver, but charge more than the hire charge! So, fellow forumers, if there is anyone out there who could direct me to a more local company that can supply me with this type of vehicle I would be most grateful. Another possible solution that occurred to me was, maybe if anyone knew of an airport shuttle business (or such like) with such a vehicle? Or maybe you have one and would like to hire yourself and vehicle out for a few hours? Ideally, we would like one of the larger vehicles that could fit my father and 4 passengers in so we can all travel together, but I think anything would be preferable to him turning up in a taxi Cheers
Saffy
The only thing I can suggest is that you dismantle the wheelchair so that it fits in the boot of the limousine. I was pretty disgusted to read your post and asked about this on a website I wrote for. The above is what one person had to do. My thoughts are with you. geared
How does your dad get around normally?? Isn't there a community transport type thing that can help out???
El Cid
I would have thought the council would be able to help, they often transport hundreds of disabled kids to school, or private people carriers/mini-buses.

El Cid
Sheffield Door 2 Door services are provided by Sheffield Community Transport - a social enterprise providing accessible community transport for people who have difficulties using mainstream public transport (including older people, people with physical impairment and/or sensory impairments, learning disabilities or mental health issues). Passengers may travel anywhere within Sheffield. http://www.sheffieldhelpyourself.org.uk/full_search_new.asp?group=17253
Plain Talker
Most taxi firms have "London" cabs (Black cabs) either tx1/2 or Metrocabs, and many have eurocabs which all have to be accessible in Sheffield under their licensing conditions. Give them a call.
Obelix
It's very tricky to get a wheelchair push into a standard car or limo of any kind unless it's a hansom cab style. When a freinds mother died the funeral directors hired a black taxicab for the day, and "converted" it into a funeral car by removing the taxicab plates, the "For Hire" signs etc and polsihed it up and manned it with one of their regular drivers in mourning attire etc. That followed the hearse in the funeral procession with the regular limo's behind it. It might sound odd looking but it actually came off as very dignified and worked extremely well.
Who Cares
Thank you for all your replies: My father is wheelchair bound and is unable to transfer himself so the option of putting his wheelchair in the boot isn't really an option. We have had to go for the Taxi option....not ideal but I'm sure it'll work out ok on the day. Again, Thank you all for your suggestions and kind words
AndyWheels
Speak to Rich or Chris at Wholesale Car Company. They might be able to help, their offer wheel chair vehicles for hire (and sell them too).
