nikita
We are going away in a few weeks (flying) ,and because of the volcano that is threatening to erupt we are making sure we are insured for ash cloud. I am amazed at how many insurers will not insure for this and after trawling the net the difference in price. Last time with the problems with ash cloud in 2010 ,we did not know right up to the day before we were due to fly out if we would be ok to fly . Having seen on the news today that there is a good chance it could erupt we are determined not to have that worry again..
Vaati
It already is erupting (if you mean the one in Iceland) just not producing ashcloud atm. http://en.vedur.is/earthquakes-and-volcanism/articles/nr/2947

None of the holiday insurance I have ever taken has protected me from "acts of god". Is there specialist insurance?

Aviva and a few others insure against ash cloud, which is what I was looking for. Best quote so far is Aviva,
dvp82
You may struggle to have any claim paid out should events turn out like 2010 if you took out a policy after the volcano started to erupt.
nikita
Just followed up last nights online quote on phone, they have insured us for ash cloud. So we can enjoy the run up to our holiday without worrying about that. Good price as well..
geared
None of the holiday insurance I have ever taken has protected me from "acts of god". Is there specialist insurance? Act of God??? It's a volcano erupting in a area thats very Geologically active (is that a term??) It's less of an act of god and more of a regular occurrence. ronthenekred
None of the holiday insurance I have ever taken has protected me from "acts of god". Is there specialist insurance? I'm not sure why, "acts of God" is so much easier said than defining each individual act of nature we have no control over. People can predict but can't know for sure if a volcano will blow while you're in flight, let alone in the flight path of the dust. Insurers know this and are prepared to issue insurance based on a gamble. The criteria I use for flight insurance is ..am I going to have my valuables nicked, not whether the plane will crash or not due to a Volcano erupting or some such, considering the safety record of flight. Acts of God and Acts of man are predictable, insurance is based on that predictability.

Nothing to do with safety of flight.as I said in 2010 during the ash cloud episode we had a miserable 2 weeks before our holiday not knowing wether we would be able to fly or not because many flights had been stopped..It was only the day before that we knew we were going for definite. So in the light of the volcano that is bubbling away at the moment we wanted to make certain we were insured for natural disasters as the insurance calls them as not all on them do. spilldig
I didn't start a new thread because the forum directed me here, but I had holiday insurance and then I developed a sore throat that lasted weeks and the doctor advised me to have a test for throat cancer. By the time I went to hospital it had eased and the hospital gave me the all clear. It was just a sore throat. Now, you are supposed to report this to the insurance company, which I did because it's on the doctors records anway, but the insurance company then said they would not insure me for anything relating to cancer . my question is why as I have never had cancer ? Theywould'nt give me a reason.
