Waldo
Sounds interesting, you may get more interest if you had a website? or provided more information; can you say more about what Chinese dance is?
WanlinDS
Hi Waldo, Many thanks for your interest, I hope the below can provide some more information. 'Chinese dance' is actually a rather broad term that can hardly be summed up in a few sentences; today dance in China is not only influenced by the country's own rich culture and traditional art forms such as Beijing Opera and martial arts, but often also draws on Western styles, most importantly Ballet. This also reflects in the way we train at Wanlin Dance School. The dance patterns contain some elements typical for Ballet but also lead our students to bring life and grace into their movements through techniques (related to e. g. breathing and posture) specific to Chinese classical dance, a style in which our dance instructor is professionally trained. Students then learn choreographies selected from Chinese classical and folk repertoire and also work with traditional dance props such as the fan or the ribbon. It is an enriching and fun experience in both artistic and cultural terms that appeals to our Chinese and non-Chinese students alike, regardless of whether they join in as complete beginners or with some existing dance background. The School does have a website but it is currently being updated, I will post the link here when it is ready! In the meantime we welcome e-mail queries from anyone interested in finding out more or attending a class.
