Well there's a Democrat in the White House & as far as I know, he, as well as all previous US Presidents could sign an Executive Order today to prevent sales of high caliber assault rifles. Signed March 2023: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2023/03/14/executive-order-on-reducing-gun-violence-and-making-our-communities-safer/ An EO is an instruction to government departments under executive branch control, it is not law and cannot contravene existing law.
