Waldo
From something on the TV this morning... Imagine a person being accosted in Glasgow city center on a Friday night, by members of the opposite sex. Now, this person was the target of lewd remarks, had their bottom pinched, hands put up their skirt to check they had underwear on, inappropriate touching etc etc. Later on, they call the police, only to be told it's not a police matter! Should it be a police matter?
taxman
If the person who was accosted thinks it is a police matter then the police should investigate.
Waldo
But when reported, the police just laugh it off, and say it's not a police matter! Would there be a public outcry over that kind of treatment? Would it be newsworthy?
Mr Bloom
If the person who was accosted thinks it is a police matter then the police should investigate. What he said. ---------- Post added 25-09-2014 at 17:48 ---------- But when reported, the police just laugh it off, and say it's not a police matter! Would there be a public outcry over that kind of treatment? Would it be newsworthy? In the light of how victims in Rotherham were treated, I would say so. How much is currently being spent on the Dave Lee Travis prosecutions? Are reported actions of a similar nature?
Waldo
Oh. I forgot one important detail. The person in question, is a man. He's wearing a kilt, and was accosted by a group of young ladies trying to find out if he was a true Scotsman...

Mr Bloom
In that case, is it not racial as well as sexual assault?

Waldo
Yeah, I guessed a few people would get where it was going taxman (the imagine a person bit, kinda gives it away, non gender specific etc). So, it's more a question of are there double standards? As a society, are we more tolerant of sexual assault or groping of men, than we are of women? esme
Personally I don't see the gender of the victim making any difference, if they don't give consent then it's assault in my book. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
