£300 per day not enough to live on

Recommended Posts

we cant vote them in, but we can also vote them out! people don't vote because they are not in touch with the normal working joe blogs. what makes me laugh is again all the expenses the mp's claim, I bet there are loads of people in Sheffield who work in another city ie Manchester, london, Birmingham, but there train fare/petrol will be paid for by their wages, not on top of what they already get paid.

£300 per day not enough, what planet are these people on?, may I suggest a planet that can only be reached by a very power rocket built by NASA!

Even travelling round the country every day, eating out every day and smoking 100 fags a day wouldn't cost £300 a day!

I honestly don't know what you would need to be doing to spend £300 a day?!

Does the £300 include a nights accommodation in that London? A link from the OP may help. If I, for one, have a meeting, or whatever, in a different city then I will claim expenses for travel, food and, if required, accommodation. A day and night in London would be more than £300, far more. My last trip, booked at the last minute, was over £200 for the train down alone.

If it does, then £300 a day is probably right, but the OP and the statement in general is very misleading.

Still, If our MP's are costing us over £300 a day, something needs to change!

Out of that £300 - which you only get for the days that you attend a full sitting it's not every day you have to fund

travel expense

hotel or other overnight

meals

office - including paying any staff

Plus running your house back home if you have one. TBH £300 is probably the bare minimum you could pay them.

You can vote out a member of the House of Lords? Good luck with that. :)

This is the article from the DM.

Official figures show that Lady Grender, a former PR executive and media pundit, attended the Lords on 81 days in her first six months and claimed £20,850 in attendance allowances in that time.

The 2013-2014 session sat for a total of 149 days, with a average of 6hrs 47 min per day. If you were to attend every session this would net you £44,700 so her £20,850 for six months indicates a pretty high attendance.

To put it in perspective someone working full time with the basic holiday entitlement would work 232 days a year, some 83 days more than a peer attending full time at the house of Lords. Personally I think £44,700 is a pretty crap wage for London and would need topping up with a second job. Scrap that, the £44,700 is tax free so would equate to £65,000. Not a bad wage for up in Sheffield, still pretty crap for London.
