vincentb
Perhaps not: the council have designed the Uni Arms as an 'asset of community value': http://www.sheffieldnewsroom.co.uk/universityarms/ (council publicity): City Council protects another pub during Sheffield Beer Week (14 March 2017) Yet another pub in Sheffield has gained community protection, with this latest announcement coming at the start of Sheffield’s Beer Week. The University Arms is the latest of many pubs to be designated an ‘asset of community value’, which helps prevent it from being closed down, sold off or redeveloped. The pub, on Brook Hill, is a real ale pub located at the centre of the University of Sheffield’s campus and is owned and run by the University itself. Sheffield City Council, which approved the application, had previously advised campaigners after their first application had been turned down and said at the time that it would welcome a further application. bluecanary
Very welcome news! I wonder whether this will impact on the University's plans for the old Hendersons factory across the road?
kaytie
Gobsmacked! Thought whenever the University said 'jump' the council asked 'how high?'! ---------- Post added 15-03-2017 at 13:46 ---------- Very welcome news! I wonder whether this will impact on the University's plans for the old Hendersons factory across the road? That would make a nice wine bar. The University were against the building of the student accommodation tower block on the Star and Garter site by the Art's Tower, but the council passed that so they don't always get their way. Unfortunately in that instance I wish that they had!
chris101
Looks like the council finally has grown a pair. What about the old Henderson's site ?
