S.P.Y

We've been wanting the man like S.P.Y down since booking our first headliner - looking at the line-up he is on now though, we are so glad we waited!!

Moving to London from São Paulo in 2003, S.P.Y was quick to establish himself within the UK drum+bass scene. After six months of working with only basic equipment, S.P.Y’s natural talent for production saw his first ever release signed to Metalheadz in 2005, with a release on Hospital’s Medschool imprint soon following in 2006. S.P.Y began collaborating with artists such as Marcus Intalex, Total Science, Kasra and DJ Marky. In 2009 S.P.Y released his first solo EP on Marcus Intalex’s label Soul:R and had releases on many other labels including Digital Soundboy and Innerground

Signing to Hospital in 2012, his debut LP, ‘What The Future Holds’ was released to critical acclaim. The LP not only received significant support from fellow artists and topped online sales charts, but was also awarded the coveted ‘Best Album’ at the annual 2012 Drum & Bass Arena awards. S.P.Y backed up this release with a relentless tour schedule of Australia, the United States, Canada, Russia, Asia, New Zealand and Europe.

Moving into 2014 and S.P.Y is taking us ‘Back to Basics’ with his second LP. Released in two parts over the coming months, ‘Back to Basics’ draws inspiration from the deeper, darker sounds of drum+bass, and features collaborations with Total Science, Rene La Vice, and vocalists Diane Charlemagne, Grimm and DRS MC.

Total Science

Jason Greenhalgh and Paul Smith first met in 1987, both living in and around the Blackbird Leys estate in Oxford, England and brought together through a mutual love of hip-hop and school girls. Greenhalgh was the first into the studio, with “Freestyle Fanatic” launching his career in 1991. However it was the establishment of the Legend imprint and specifically Greenhalgh’s “Champion Sound”, which really took their profile above and beyond the slew of anonymous white labels that were dominating the music at the time.

In 1994, the pair started recording together under the name Funky Technicians, with “Got to Believe” the first in a series of records which pushed the label away from the fizzling darkside movement and more towards the epic string sections and rolling beats which started to appear on labels like Basement, Lucky Spin and Good Looking. The duo continue releasing tracks on Legend and others for another three years. The Creation of Total Science at the end of 1997, with help from Brillo from Timeless, Greenhalgh and Smith established the CIA label and changed their name to the now synonymous Total Science.

The pair’s style of production has lead to them being 2 of the most respected musicians in the scene.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) are back on top of the DnB game; the renowned production outfit behind the legendary “Desperado” — recipient of Radio 1’s esteemed accolade: ‘Number 1 Dum & Bass Tune of The Year’ 2006; and one of the greatest DnB tracks of all-time. For more than a decade the passionate pair have been studiously building upon their unique signature vibes in the Camden-based studio cave they call second home; cementing their position in the book of Drum & Bass with legendary tunes such as “Uprising”, “Bloodlines”, “Days Of Rage”, “Three's A Crowd” and of course Stand Alone— their exceptional debut artist album for V Recordings (2010).

With heavyweight DJ reputations in parallel to their impressive production credentials, Artificial Intelligence are also renowned for delivering their fresh and versatile sets around the globe, headlining the world’s finest clubs and festivals.

2014 has seen a continued increase in material towards an album in the next year. With their track “War Horse” with DRS makes the sampler for the legendary Metalheadz Platinum Breakz series and selling out all copies, 2014 has also been an exciting time for Integral Records: a debut compilation album featuring the likes of Calibre, Alix Perez, Zero T, Technimatic & Scar has just been released, heading straight to #1 in the Redeye and Juno charts, with the A.I. remix of Lenzman’s “Ever So Slightly” receiving strong airtime from Friction on BBC Radio 1, a 9/10 rating in DJ Mag plus their “Money Shot” for June 2014, as well as earning the accolade of Mixmag’s “Album of the Month” to top it off.

Commix

Anyone who was listening to electronic music, and particularly drum & bass, in 2007 will clearly remember the arrival of Commix’ debut album ‘Call To Mind’ released on Goldie’s Metalheadz label. A breath of fresh air amongst a sea of Pendu-clones, the Cambridge duo’s place in drum & bass history was assured from the opening bars and their status as exciting electronic music producers was confirmed with critical acclaim across the board.

But music and art are about evolution, and evolving is precisely what Commix are doing. After the release of ‘Call To Mind’ Commix went to ground, throwing themselves into new methods of working and new ways of thinking. While Metalheadz commissioned a full remix version of ‘Call To Mind’, Commix experimented, ruminated and deliberated to ensure that their second artist album would be a worthy successor to their incredible debut.

Five years after the release of ‘Call To Mind’ Commix marked the end of an era with ‘Dusted’, a collection of tracks recorded between 2003- 2008. Now, with a new sound and the sophomore album fully underway, Commix are taking the next bold step in their musical maturation.
