Ebola - can UK cope in a crisis?

Recommended Posts

Scaremongering for a £20 billion pot to prevent something that has not happened or will happen. Few going to mint this one to death.

Very little to help contain the outbreak in Africa?

Remember the massive amount of anti-virals bought and discarded during the bird flu panic?

These events are great news for the pharma companies.

First case discovered in the UK.

The measure introduced to screen for Ebola (no more than testing temperatures) has not worked and an infected person has arrived into the busiest airport in the world, next to one of the most densely populated cities in the world. That is unacceptable and is not (as is being claimed) doing 'everything we can' to minimise the risk.

It is time to stop flights from the regions affected by Ebola, except for chartered flights carrying health workers returning to the UK after a period of quarantine. It isn't time for panic but it is time for maximum precaution.

The person infected didn't fly in from an area infected with Ebola. It's worth noting that not one person has been infected in the west by a health care worker who contracted Ebola helping out in Africa.

Until the person who has Ebola gets really sick, it isn't a highly contagious disease, it isn't an airborne virus and it doesn't live very long outside of the body.

Also, this isn't the first person we've had in this country with Ebola, another UK healthcare worker contracted it and he was brought home and treated successfully.
