Need some sorn car info please

i bought a car on the 29th of september and the owner sent the logbook off so i could keep the vehicles tax that expires in jan 2015 , ive only just had the time to pick the car up today , now its home if i sorn it will i lose the tax? , i dont need the car till the end of nov.

What date did the seller put on the V5 transfer document, because that one will be the important one.

 

If they were sneeky they would put the 1st October, that way the DVLA would refund the tax money to them instead of letting it pass onto you.

 

They wouldn't be required to hand in the tax disc as it's now redundant.

You should be ok then.

Check it every couple of days to make sure they don't strip the tax off the car - because you know they wouldn't bother to tell you before they did it, and the first you'd hear about it is when you're sat in the back of a police car.

Of course you can. Make the SORN declaration at the same time as you send the disc for refund.

Not quite true....

As soon as you SORN the vehicle a refund is automatically generated. No need to send the tax disc back anymore.

True under the new system. I used the 'old system' (with sending the disc back) in late September, whence my recollection :)
