Midwifes' are to strike 13/10/14

Only 62% voted to strike.

Only the majority then

I agree, they are in serious need of more Midwives.

Or they should stop dumping more and more of the trivial daily duties on the midwives that used to be taken care of by help workers.

RCN isn't on strike, so most nurses would be at work.

Or we should try to reduce the birth rate/fertility rate.

Not a majority of NHS workers as a whole though is it?

1.2 million work in the NHS

400,000 in a union

62% of that 400,000 voted to strike.

248,000 out of 1.2 million - not sure that's really a majority in reality is it?

The BBC reports that 53% of radiographers voted to strike, again hardly a majority.

The BBC stated:

NHS sources said about 5% of staff who were expected in work did not turn up, although unions had always maintained the numbers not working would not reflect the strength of support across the workforce.

Maybe people just couldn't be bothered to strike for 1%, or would rather have a job than risk it?

Maybe midwifes feel that they're job is so important that they feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. Can you imagine a maternity ward with no midwifes, especially in the birthing units?

Surly on the unions that balloted their members would strike? RCN didn't strike and I think that they are the biggest nursing union.
