Oingo
Thinking way back some 30 odd years, Lydgate Middle School (Shore Lane): lower playground, we used to play football using this big old ruin as a goal. It was just a big wall really, some 30 odd foot in height and perhaps 100 foot long. It framed the upper part of the playground and can still be seen to some extend on bing maps birdseye view. Does anyone know what this originally was? Checking old-maps.co.uk it rather looks like it might once have been a part of the Freemasons place, or an adjacent farm? Britain from above photos and picture sheffield are no great help. I would be intersted to hear from anyone who knows.
Annie Bynnol
Was it part of the original aqueduct which ran from Redmires to Pisgah/Hadfield res. by the Grindstone? image
Oingo
Thanks for the reply. No it isn't part of the aquaduct. Try this: http://binged.it/1w1p8ot almost subsumed by two big trees. ---------- Post added 13-10-2014 at 14:15 ---------- The structure shows as perhaps an odd L shaped building on old maps (http://www.old-maps.co.uk) and looks to have been around until into the early 20th century - seemingly in the wider grounds of the Freemason's Hall. NigelT
Maybe part of Lydgate Hall. Rather unlikely:confused:. This was situated at the top of Lydgate Hall Crescent, some distance away.
