Annina
I'm no expert but you could try the land registry office.
Daven
Sheffield Archives may hold this information - or, has been suggested, the Land Registry. https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/libraries/archives-and-local-studies.html http://www.google.co.uk/aclk?sa=l&ai=C4u4CaypSVJDDDaTL7QaDpIGwCNy-uN0F1KeL_bIBysinhAEIABABILZUKAJQjr_q4AJgu865g9AKoAH8vqfKA8gBAakCfjRJoe3Ouj6qBCJP0BTDb0FD0rMoQe63kRFNCX04MxcjyD-CN6M9hPqtzEeCgAWQToAH7MDYNYgHAZAHAqgHpr4b&sig=AOD64_0FmjdOxuZyJMWHcaNV-zA7Wo67sQ&rct=j&q=&ved=0CCAQ0Qw&adurl=http://www.uklrs.co.uk/landregistry/ I have just noticed your postcode - that area used to be the district of Wortley the records of which may not be stored in Sheffield but in the Wakefield archive. http://www.archives.wyjs.org.uk/ Edited October 30, 2014 by Daven
dars35
asking in the local library might be as good a place as any, especially if you live in a relatively new house
Petit Chou
Most of the HighGreen, Burncross area used to be "fields" in the early 1900's as they were postcoded then as S30 and addressed to be "near Sheffield" My grand parents lived in highgreen before the roads were tarmacked ! Try old-maps.co.uk you can look but you're not allowed to republish or sell on maps.
Phanerothyme
It was probably an ancient native American burial ground. Run!
