Any real difference between supermarkets?

Recommended Posts

The problem as I see it with big supermarkets is that they stopped concentrating on foodstuff and diversified into white goods, clothes etc. Doing that means less real estate for food products and higher prices. Netto was very successful with their motto of "stack em high and sell it cheap" and had pallets of tinned stuff stacked up instead of a small show area like ASDA has. ASDA at Manor Top is constantly running out of basic items because they would rather have a larger area dedicated to selling buckets and mops etc. They even take up a fair amount of space by selling newspapers, magazines and office equipment when that space could be better used.

ASDA and the rest may advertise that they stock over 5000 different items but because of that they actually have only a limited supply of each and run out of some items quickly.

Basket A costs £X at store A and the same basket costs £X at store B. As though anyone would fall for that. Maybe the baskets are the same but it's unlikely anyone will buy the full contents of the basket and supermarkets will make up for the loss on other items
