Perry Scope
Listen to the fantastic sounds of Joe Cocker's unique live recording at the Esquire club in Sheffield during 1963 produced by his former manager and club owner the late Terry Thornton, This is a revised track and just put on YouTube this week to share the great nostalgia sounds and photos of club members and other star acts including - Jimmy Crawford, Dave Berry, Frank White, Georgie Fame etc. Performing as Vance Arnold & the Avengers, the recording was used as a demo tape by Terry to try to get him more work away from Sheffield. See - Joe Cocker Show 1963.
Carmen.
I remember Dave Berry. Started out in a little club on West St. Being friends of family members I was in his company many a time.
rainbow2411
I was there that night. My OH was, still is, a drummer and has played with many bands over the years, so a lot of the people in the pictures are our friends. The West Street club was Club 60, Saturday nights there were great, I met my husband there and I still have my membership card. I was interested to see the picture of the man called Ivan who used to take pictures of everyone, I would love to see his collection from that time, but have never been able to find any information on him, never even knew his surname. Thank you for the YouTube information it brings back so many memories.

It was actually on Shalesmoor and yes it was in the cellars of the old Acorn Pub.

rainbow2411
I used to watch Dave Berry and the Cruiser's at the Leeds Arms At Wales Bar or at Swallownest youth club I always thought that they where the first gigs he did . I remember seeing Dave and the original Cruisers at the Frecheville Co-op, I'm not sure but think that it may have been before Club 60 opened.
