Library Theatre Film Screenings

I'm sure they were free and I think the tickets were distributed through the schools.

 

I went there a few times early 60's, tickets compliments of Burngreave school. one occasion was the tenth anniversary-1963- of the England-Hungary game at Wembley. Notice I didn't say 'match'.

I went to see Laurence Olivier's Henry V there. It must have been around 1960.

 

One time we went there on a school -Burngreave-assignment, with teachers in attendance. Some thing akin to a particular period in history that was being applied at the time. The film was, I think 'The Robe' and as it started, on the screen was "Twentieth Century Fox presents: Richard Burton... Vic..at this point some wag yelled out "and VICTOR MANURE". We weren't invited back!

I remember going to see the film to kill a mocking bird with the school we were studying the book at the time but I also remember school taking us as a treat to see a film with Steve McQueen in it called drive maybe this was early seventies I can also remember going to see quite a few other films there mostly b films or ones with subtitles it was cheap to get it you could buy tickets from central library we used to go when we wre students
