Nice pub or social event for elderly intelligent gent

My Father in Law, after suffering a temporary decline in health has moved up the country to Sheffield recently, and after a period of settling in, he is trying to get himself a social life. He is very shaky on his feet, but intends to get his motorised buggy going again when he has had his eyesight sorted.

 

He wants to find a place to go where other like-minded individuals go, and because he used to be a Newsreel camera man, working with a professional set for most of his life, he had expressed a wish for us to find somewhere suitable for him to go and meet such folk.

 

We have tried the standard social meets, which he seems not to be settled with, and has asked if I could find out where the local press officers hang out during their lunch hours in the city. We could perhaps then treat him to a lunch there one day, so we can check how comfortable he feels.

 

Does anyone know where that might be, or suggest something else that he could fit into, please?
