truman
If the company paid a decent wage, British people would want to do the job. There is no job that no British people would do for the right wage. How much should you be paid for making sandwiches?
Stan Tamudo
How much should you be paid for making sandwiches? I should imagine it depends on what type of sandwich is being made.
tinfoilhat
How much should you be paid for making sandwiches? I'd have thought more than the starting salary for a teacher would be sufficient. Make it a grand a week if you want - I make me own sarnies anyway!
Snapshot
We need a national boycott of the products this company makes, and although I've done the sandwich making job, considering the practices that went on, I wont be eating them by default. My days of buying pre-packed sandwiches ended the day I once bought a prawn mayo sandwich from a petrol station, and no word of a lie..there was literally 6 prawns within the whole 2 sandwiches! The rest was cheap white bread and an awful lot of cheap butter
Bounce
........Oh dear! Yes most are dossers and that's why companies look abroad for unskilled labour. If it didn't benefit companies to do so they wouldn't waste their time recruiting from abroad. The other reason is that a lot of British people don't want to do the unskilled factory type jobs. Increasingly factory work is done in Asia where the staff work longer and harder for a fraction of the cost. I know politicians keep banging on about living in a global economy but that's one thing they're right about. If all immigration stopped tomorrow the companies would move their premises abroad. Most restaurants, coffee shops and fast food outlets would also close down, Edited November 14, 2014 by Bounce
martok
Maybe some folk don't want to make sarnies for a living..rightly or wrongly you can't force people to work even there are jobs on their doorstep.. Do you think everyone should have the right to choose between working and living off benefits, or should their benefits be stopped if they refuse to work? Mecky
Maybe some folk don't want to make sarnies for a living..rightly or wrongly you can't force people to work even there are jobs on their doorstep.. Making sarnies, picking up litter, professional footballers, porn stars, it's all the same to me. They'll be days when people just don't want to work whatever their job is; how many stories do we hear about footballers not turning up for training? I can't imagine employers being to keen in taking, sometimes having to take, people who don't want to work for them - upsetting customers, staff etc either
Ithink-doyou
The cost of living is probably (I say probably because I don't know) much lower in Hungary, So the plucky Hungarians will come here, make and save their money and take it home and live like kings. Granvill from Open All Hours was half Hungarian- the bottom half I think. This is common. People from poor countries, go to the UK, work every hour they can, live in the cheapest place they can, eat as cheaply as they can, then sod off home and start a business, or buy a house with cash so they're set up for years. Sadly, the daft welfare state in the UK means British people refuse to work unless they're on at least 300 quid per week.

It's not just Johnny Foreigner who goes to work overseas, I and many of my friends worked away from home when there were better opportunities abroad. I leant a lot about myself, met many new friends and enjoyed the cultures of other countries.
