It's not unreasonable that some other 1st world country, which invests more in health, or due to other factors, should have a better cancer survival rate than we do. But that's a poor headline, "Not the best survival rate across 1st world countries" is no where near as shocking as a misleading comparison with the 3rd world (ignoring the reasons behind the difference with the 3rd world, such as greatly increased lifespan, etc...) Yes, I agree it was a sensationalist headline, but having looked at the data, I think there is actually some cause for concern behind it. That is to say, we are worse than every other similar country (northern europe, north america, australia/NZ) for all 10 cancers across the board, almost without exception.
