gamezone07
When I initially phoned the police (as in my first post) I didn't mention skin colour as it's totally irrelevant (other than for descriptive purposes). Having said that I'd be very disappointed though not that surprised to find out that the police dealt with this community in a different way to any another and held back from taking decisive action so as not to create a race issue. I think the bottom line though is that the police have very few resources or powers to deal with this sort of anti social behaviour and that's why youths get away with it, no matter where they live or what colour skin they have. Throwing bricks at cars and especially people is a bit more than antisocial behaviour. I feel sorry for the Rude Shipyard as well, this has been going on for some years. ---------- Post added 30-11-2014 at 18:46 ---------- I appreciate attacking/behaviour around the Rude Shipyard area seems to be becoming an increasingly frequent problem. There was less trouble this year around Bonfire Night in the area, wasn't there? Does that mean that some interventions seem to be working? I went down Abbeydale Road that night, police everywhere, especially on that corner near R/S, so not surprised it was quieter.

There was the antisocial behaviour order in place giving the police dispersal powers, but that finished just after bonfire night. If bonfire night was better this year then that looks like it probably worked? As the old problems appear to be happening again, we need to report every incident in order to enable the police to justify putting the order in place again. woodmally
Hi all, I cycle past here on my way home most afternoons and there's usually a gang of around 8 older teenagers hanging around. In the past they've shouted things and pretended to jump into the road but on Monday one through a full bottle at me. It hit my bike and caused me to have a bit of a wobble but I rode on. I called 101 and reported it then gave a statement and the police said they are aware of the gang as there have been reports of them intimidating passers by and throwing stones and fireworks but as yet haven't been able to gather enough evidence to make an arrest or prosecution. When the police arrive the gang just run off and the only descriptions they have are Asian males in dark hoodies. Anyway as I rode past tonight there were 3 of them there just stood throwing stones at cars so I phoned 101 again with better descriptions and they said they would act. The police were thankful of my complaint as they say the more they have, the more chance they have of allocating resources to tackle the issue so I was wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences that could strengthen the case? Thanks Or the police could drive in an unmarked car and watch. Wouldnt that be easier than waiting for more people to be attacked and come forward. geared
Looks like the police are clamping down at last :-) but not till the residents threatened to sort the problem out their own way :( I can't see why the police have left it so long, a gang congregating on a street corner armed with knives - search the little scrotes and arrest them???? Apparently they ran away, and your average SYP copper weighed down by donuts and red tape couldn't catch them.

woodmally
It's time that Borstal was brought back. I never understood why borstals were scrapped. They worked. I presume it breaches the human rights or something.

Evidence for that claim, please. ---------- Post added 03-06-2015 at 18:03 ---------- It's time that Borstal was brought back. Yeah, everyone knows our streets were crime free when we had borstals. LeMaquis
I never understood why borstals were scrapped. They worked. I presume it breaches the human rights or something. Borstals were abolished by Thatcher in her first term. If they had worked there wouldn't have been much youth crime in the decades up till then. Or maybe you think there wasn't. Then again you think that Thatcher abolished them for human rights reasons.
