Are some colloquial words seeped in History

Recommended Posts

Another one is Dad for Father, I can see Mom as an abbreviation of Momma but where does Dad come from ?

Oh and I've hunted high and low for the other R in father but as in water I can't seem to find one..

Steeped as far as believing is concerned. My take on it as a colloquialism is that it means just 'belonging to us ' or 'we'. We say 'Our Father' in the Lord's prayer. He belongs to us, we belong to Him. Simples.

Quakers were/or are like that.

According to the O.E.D. nobody knows, but it might come from a young child's attempts to say "da, da"

Well, if you head east from York and go a bit farther than Pocklington you come to Warter..:)
