I know they had a large and impressive factory on Wellington Street facing what is now Devonshire Green which was demolished in the late 1970s.

 

There was a bit of fuss over it being demolished and I took some photos of it before it was knocked down:

i have one of there knifes

ita a schrade its nice and heavy stamped with his initials and what looks like a head ( made in 1980 its in near mint condition fantastic quality.

and three bladed been trying to get a value but have only seen one on the

american site of ebay at $220 dollars.

they do seem very collectable in america with what i have read.

Wostenholme's made the famous Bowie knife which is one reason they are popular with American collectors. The founder, George Wostenholme made several trips to the USA to promote his knives there and the story is that the area of Nether Edge that he developed with large villas and tree lined streets was based on Boston, Massachusetts. His own house was Kenwood Hall, which is now a hotel.

hiya, george wostenholme brings back memories for me as when i was growing up there were spare land all aroud their factory the one across the road on wellington st was our football/cricket pitch,we called this the red wreck, the factory was at the back of the washington pub, all around that area were little mesters who also made quality cutlery.
