Must be borderline temps, not snowflakes only but soft hail http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graupel It's dropped about half a degree in the last hour. It's going to get a bit clearer in the sky for an hour or two, which will rapidly drop the temps to below freezing. Behind it there is the chance of some really heavy persistent snow to start in the early hours, with a chance of flurries between now and then. It's only going to need a slight change in the wind direction to blow more heavy snow over us in the short term too, I'll track it over the Pennines but I think it will probably go to the South of us.
