Wait until they have done the swim and the cycle, and try and paste them in the run
Flanker7
Ironman is a trade name, with the 'M' dot logo, and different formulas. Tri distances are Full, Half, Olympic, Sprint, Super Sprint. I realise that loads of you and other people may know the differences. But, what are you aiming at?

My first one. Am strong on the bike. Less so on the run and swim. Be working on that in next 8 months
PeteM01
26km cycle 750m open water swim 6km run Just the sprint... I would be quite interested in doing a swim/run combination, but those distances are a bit too sprinty for me. I could manage a sub-15min 750m (pool) swim and a sub-30min 6km as individual events but that's probably far too slow for you. Sheffield Tri Club do Wednesday evening swims at PF (nice cool water) that would probably be far more competitive for you.
JessicaZ
For training on the Open Water Swim side check out www.yorkshireoutdoorswimmers.co.uk If you are not used to swimming outdoors it might be best to stick to the pool until around March / April though! The water temps at the moment are well below 5 degrees
