What nonsense. Christianity survived because it was hardly peaceful and because it was just as intolerant of opposing views as modern day Islam.

What do you mean by peaceful? Only recently in Malaysia some guy held a pet the dog event. He's since had to go into hiding because hard-line conservative Muslims have threatened to stone him to death. And it's the hard-line conservative Muslims that the Malaysian government, for various reasons, have been sucking up to for votes.

 

In Iran the more liberal Muslims often face threats of violence, and suffer violence, from the government backed hard-line Muslims. And it's a similar story throughout the Islamic world.

 

These countries are hardly peaceful. And as anfisa says, a great many Muslims are having to endure violence and threats of violence from Islamists who won't tolerate more liberal or moderate views.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel there. They might not be war-torn countries but the oppression of the people is not what I'd call 'living in peace'. Oppression and extremism... it is a common theme.

You still can't answer the most basic part of the question. If it's all about their religious beliefs, why is it only a small minority that are extremists? Why do most Muslims want to live peacefully?
