Do liverpool people still have a bad name?

Recommended Posts

I think the bad reputation Liverpool and Liverpudlians (unfairly) have, came from the establishment and the right wing national media in the eighties and it just stuck. 1, Liverpool had a socialist council that stuck its fingers up to the Thatcher government, and 2, there was the Heysel disaster which led to English clubs being banned from participating in European club and International football.

Yes I think Boris Johnson had to retract his snidey comments about the people of Liverpool when he realised that they weren't 'just going to take it' and dissmiss it as 'that's just Boris'.

Good for them.

I'm a native Scouser but I'm not going to bite at this obvious and very poor trolling attempt. I think this thread should probably just be removed to be honest, it's pretty pathetic. You'd think people would have better things to do in their lives, particularly in the run up to Christmas.

The crime rate in your city is much higher than in Sheffield. Therefore, scousers are surely more likely to be criminals than Sheffield folk. Do you disagree with this logic?

Mancs are worse than scousers, but yes OP, this human is statistically more likely to be involved with crime than if it was a sheffield folk. Keep your doors and windows locked and don't look them in the eye. Scousers like to fight more than normal people.

If you have cans of special brew in the house, keep them in a place that can't be seen through the window. Don't buy a copy of the Sun either.

What about the huge crime wave the came into Liverpool and later on to the Wirral after the arrival of Cocaine on our shores?

I love Liverpool as a city by the way (love to live there one day), but it can be quite hairy and was really, really bad in the times you are mentioning

I think a relatively small number of people in an area can be responsible for a huge amount of crime and disorder, therefore to tar a whole city with this brush feels unfair - so I do challenge your logic.

I agree, though would you not agree that someone form Liverpool is more likely to be one of these "small number" of people than a relatively crime free area.

The interesting thing about crime and the criminal justice system is that certain crimes are more visible than others.

Take the widespread manipulation of the LIBOR rates which has been uncovered in the last few years. People say that such white collar crime is victimless. This fraud cost billions, and people have lost their homes as a consequence. Yet few have been charged. Few would judge Londoners or people living in the leafy Home Counties by the actions of the people who rigged of the market.

There was a bit of double standards there. What Boris said did have some truth to it:

Tributes left for a dead chicken

Yet at the same time, Billy Connolly said this about Liverpudlian hostage Ken Bigley and there was barely an outrage:

I do think its easy to get people mistaken

We do get misinformation from the media and with football hooliganism back in the 80s it does make it appear people with scouse accents deal with problems using their fists.

I'm not saying the dentist is like that and I'm sure he isn't interested in removing the wheels from my car during the night. Sadly though sometimes we make judgements about other people before we get to know them

Do you think I should mention something to the dentist about my fears, or should I keep quiet? I don't fancy getting punched in the face
