SATURDAY 20th LINDSAY DRACASS

(Pronounced Draycass)

26 year-old singing phenemon, schoolgirl Lindsay Dracass, was the UK's entrant for the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest held in Copenhagen. Lindsay and her song 'No Dream Impossible' received an astonishing 45,000 votes from the public after all four songs were performed on BBC1. Lindsay's story is somewhat of a fairy-tale. She was discovered at just 13 years-old by her manager Alan Wood who heard her sing at a charity show in their hometown of Sheffield. Bowled over by her astonishing vocal ability, Alan became Lindsay's manager. Determined to get into the music industry, Lindsay asked if she could complete her 'work experience programme' in his busy music office. Alan went a step further and introduced her to fellow Sheffielder, the internationally renowned hit singer/songwriter, Paul Carrack. As a result, in the last twelve months Lindsay has performed live as a backing singer in the UK, Europe and the US with Paul and has already fulfilled two major career ambitions by performing at the Glastonbury 2000 festival, and just a few weeks ago in Los Angeles. In April, Lindsay's recording career will be launched. Lindsay was introduced to hit record producer Peter Van Hooke, who was responsible for launching the multi-million selling career of Tanita Tikaram. As further testimony to her extraordinary voice, the song that will launch Lindsay's recording career, 'No Dream Impossible' was written by legendary multi-million-selling hit song writer, Russ Ballard, along with his co-writer, Chris Winter. Russ' long list of international hit songs include 'Since You Been Gone' (Rainbow), 'No More The Fool' (Elkie Brooks), and other international hits by Kiss,Roger Daltry and Santana, among others. Also, a neat previous connection with Eurovision is that Russ has had his songs recorded by both Frida and Agnetha of Abba. Added to the hit team around Lindsay is the song's Executive Producer, Rick Blaskey, who was involved in the international launch of Whitney Houston along with hit records by Ricky Martin, Tina Turner and England's football anthem, '3 Lions'. This formidable team, along with her record company, Universal Music, should ensure that Lindsay will be launched to the Premier Division of the pop charts. The only disharmony in this team could be that Rick Blaskey and Lindsay's manager, Alan Wood are fervent season ticket holders at Sheffield United Fc whilst Lindsay herself is also a Sheffield United fan..
