SnailyBoy
As the article suggests, how will prayers help a council meeting? http://www.secularism.org.uk/news/2014/12/nss-accuses-government-of-undermining-religious-freedom-by-backing-new-council-prayers-bill
andyofborg
if there is a deity listening then I'm sure they will appreciate the attention and reward the council, councillors and local population accordingly
milquetoast1
if there is a deity listening then I'm sure they will appreciate the attention and reward the council, councillors and local population accordingly What if it's a different one? That would make things even worse, no false idols and all that.
woodmally
As the article suggests, how will prayers help a council meeting? http://www.secularism.org.uk/news/2014/12/nss-accuses-government-of-undermining-religious-freedom-by-backing-new-council-prayers-bill A lot of what is discussed at council is hot air anyway. Council meeting discussions arnt even documented like Hansard for Parliament is. So 5 minutes more of talking to a brick wall to a non existent deity wont harm. The Beast of Bolsover always goes to prayers in Parliament so he is guaranteed a seat.
andyofborg
Council meeting discussions arnt even documented like Hansard for Parliament is. Do you want them to be? While I haven't made a great study of Hansard, I have read verbatim reports of other organisations minutes and I really don't see the need. However, Minutes which record decisions and such like and provide some context to the reason why a decision was taken are much more useful and I'm happy to point you here: http://sheffielddemocracy.moderngov.co.uk/uuCoverPage.aspx?bcr=1 Where you can find our Councils decision making in all its glory Happy reading
