AndyCrookes
Whats the best one at the moe , I've tried them all apart from the renamed one nr Highfields libary. Which is the best?
PeteM01
Maveli is the best by some way - nice short menu, seems all freshly cooked, good spice levels. Arusuvai comes second. Sai Nivas is cheap and a good way of tasting a range of dishes. Rama's Bridge is very popular but not cheap and on the two occasions I visited, the food was decent but no better than that. I have not been to the original East and West cafe for a while, but it was also on the cheap and cheerful side.
ubermaus
Djanisthas on abbeydale road used to be great. Its called something else now.
PeteM01
The people who ran Dhanisthas ('the one near Highfield Library') now own Sai Nivas off The Moor. Dhanisthas is now called Arusuvai.
jameslast
until it was destroyed by fire the Indus was without doubt the best, never found one in the same league, tried many, some good some terrible
jake
until it was destroyed by fire the Indus was without doubt the best, never found one in the same league, tried many, some good some terrible Was that South Indian? Not a very South indian name if so. I'd go along with Pete's view - Maveli is best I've been to. Rama's Bridge has gone up in price recently-and the food is very average. Though it alway seems busy - so it must be doing something right

PeteM01
It is South Indian, are you thinking of a different place lol I like Urban Choola but it is not particularly South Indian - although it is 'Indian' as opposed to Pakistani or Bangladeshi in style.
