No contraception, no dole

Increasing the wage of everyone will just fuel inflation so no one will end up any better off.

Not quite true.

Many many low wage earners turn to the tax payer to get their money propped up via tax and family credits, which includes discounted council tax, rents perscriptions and other stuff.

We now have millions of people trapped in this situation. In reality the Tax payer is paying for the profits of companys who pay low wages.

For every website or page of research you can find to back up your comment. I can find one that rubbishes it completely.

Norway has a tiny population compared to the UK. But, their minimum wage is almost double ours. Almost all workers are union members too. Unions dictate the minimum wage. Regardless of their tiny population, it's still proof that businesses can still survive while paying a good living wage.

It has to be a lot higher than the UKs minimum wage. Very expensive place to live.

Different country, smaller population and more natural resources than we have. They can not be compared to the UK.

It's a lump of land with humans on it that's controlled by a government in a capitalist system. Of cause it can be compared to the UK.

Vast swathes of farmland, common land and greenbelt...

We can grow vertically, we can grow underground, we can use land much more efficiently, we can import food for less. Common land isn't very common!

Greenbelt has doubled in size in 40 years, needs to be kept in check to stop it growing further!

You appear to think that if the UK increased its population to 1 billion people we could still all be wealthy. When in fact the only way to achieve that would be to reduce the population, when you share finite resources between a population equally, a smaller population gets a larger share of that wealth than a large population.

We would also not need to export as much food, meaning land used for large scale farming could be used more diversely, giving us more of what we need on the land we already use.
