tinfoilhat
It's impossible to know the odds though......cancer is unpredictable. Obelix reckons there is an 80% chance of 10 year survival. Is that wrong then?

Allen
Isn't the most important part of the argument the fact that she is a minor? I haven't changed my mind on this one... It's impossible to know the odds though......cancer is unpredictable. Nor this.... Obelix reckons there is an 80% chance of 10 year survival. Is that wrong then? No. I won't dispute the statistics shown by Obelix. ........... I'd ask though....doesn't the 80% survival rate add some weight to the argument that the US state should intervene. aliceBB
The problem with setting a legal age of minority/majority is that there will always be individual cases around the margins of that age where the law is not appropriate. Some 17 year olds are more mature, self-aware and wise than some 30 year olds. Plus, if you are deemed old enough to be in charge of two tons of potentially lethal hardware (aka a motor vehicle) at 15, or a gun at 16 in some states, it seems bizarre that you are not allowed - even with your parent's support - to make a decision about your own quality of life at 17.
