Electric Bikes ..

Recommended Posts

In that case definitely go for it, a cousin of mine sold his car and now bikes 24 kilometres into work every day with his electric bike - he loves it.

I need to do more research , although I walk a lot in my profession I am not 100% sure if I am fit enough with our hills or not , I do probably around 30 miles per day in distance so would need to know if the battery would sustain that ! I have also seen the electric moped line bikes but would like to use cycle paths rather than roads.

I once looked into the moped type ones, and luckily had the foresight to check insurance requirements....at the time (It may be different now), but 'most' insurers wouldn't insure me...Not even quote me, as they were new to the market and there was no insurance history for them....at the time, they were virtually impossible to insure! The frequent line coming back from them I heard was that pedestrians can't hear you approach...and that made them (in their eyes) dangerous.

to be fair i would worry as it looks like a moped, so would need some insurance

Our scooters are EC examination certified EN15194 with compliance to health and safety directive 2006/42/EC. No licence needed to ride on the road. Excellent acceleration, lean and very agile! The battery is a 48v 12ah LITHIUM battery, therefore it does far more miles than the standard 36v version, up to 50 KM per charge depending on weight and terrain (A MASSIVE 25% MORE POWER OUTPUT). We designed our bikes so that the battery is protected under the seat and NOT under the feet where the elements can cause excessive damage, we have also learned that the battery under the seat creates a safer counter balance.

I am an experienced road cyclist and do a lot of training on road on my racer and I also have an Ebco electric bike.

Now, a few who have seen me on it laughed and was supprised I resorted to an electric bike and my view is there fantastic for commuting to work, to the gym and local area's like Meadowhall and Bradfield but I don't recommend going for a long jaunt on them.

The reason is that mine has 3 levels of power and not because i need to but because I like to use the strongest level because it goes up the hills easier but this also reduces the mileage and the lights at night also drain the power so don't go on that this bike does 60 miles a charge.

I recommend them for getting around locally I wouldn't do without mine but they will not get you fit I have two big hills to climb from work to home and I am no where near to breaking into a sweat which is probably good news for you..

Well I've got an electric bike too, and it wasn't a cheapo one either....But I do worry about popping to the shops with it, and leaving it outside...even for a few minutes....Ok, I've got a huge lock (Which is a bit of a pain to use) I can use to securely clamp it to something....But I don't see that as much of a deterrent for 'idle hands'...If you get my drift...

I've been surprised a few times to see someone pass me up hill on what looked like an old style town bike, sat down, casually peddling, whilst I was stood up and working hard...

I spotted the battery pack the 2nd time it happened, before that I thought I'd gone soft or something.
