Savile Street name change

Does anyone know for certain if the name of Savile Street in Sheffield was changed (from "Saville" to "Savile") in honour of Sir Jimmy Savile and his charity work or not? Obviously this would have been before his public fall from grace.

Hmmmm.

If you notice, some of the buildings on there use the "LL" spelling. Surely they wouldn't get this wrong. And it is the more traditional spelling of the name "Saville" too.

Also, if you look closely at the street sign between Savile Street and The Wicker, you will notice that it has been carefully altered with white paint to remove one of the Ls. Coincidence?

:suspect:

If it's anew sign then it was probably a mistake that was rectified but certainly nowt to do with Jimmy Savile and the buildings had probably copied it. I have never known it spelled with two 'L's
