Eater Sundae
Probably a heavily pregnant doe. They waddle when they reach term. Ah, not thought of that. Thanks.
Becky B
I was going to suggest a hedgehog before you mentioned the tail. They're quite dumpy and waddly!

mickey finn
Coypu? I saw one last year in a field in France. Like an oversized fat Guinea Pig. I have seen Coypu before and they are pretty big, they have been seen on the river Trent.
Fogey
Toward the end of last year I felt privileged to see a water vole along the five weirs walk.

rossyrooney
Toward the end of last year I felt privileged to see a water vole along the five weirs walk. There were several living in the stone wall under the footbridge at the end of the old paddling pool in Millhouses Park. This was several years ago so I don't know if they are still around but it was mesmerising watching them appear and disappear only to emerge several stones further on. Dazz1
Around 4pm this evening while in queuing traffic on Penistone Road, about 50 yds from the junction with Leppings Lane, I saw what I assumed to be a rat, but it didn't look quite right so I'm not sure. It was on the pavement, then ambled into the undergrowth, but didn't looked scared / stressed. It was a rich brown colour. It looked bigger than any rat I've ever seen before (although it's hard to judge size without something else to compare it with), but the main difference was it's shape. It was much heavier at the rear than rats normally are. Was it just an overweight rat or could there possibly be something else that I saw? Any ideas, anyone? It would probably be a rat with all the fast food rubbish left lying around the dumping ground on Hillsboro plus they live very near rivers

Minimo
Saw a report today (Daily Mail) that a coati had been seen (and photographed) on the banks of the Thames. Have a look at a picture of one, it could be what you saw.
